Lanty's Bog
Steel Knotts Ascent

One feature of our Lakeland holidays is the close availability of the type of short walks I wouldn't like to travel long distances to undertake. This is one such walk - a quick ascent of Steel Knotts from Martindale New Church.

Rain Approaching

They said it would be raining this morning but at our start time of 07:30hrs, it wasn't ... however it soon would be!

Pikeawassa

Steel Knotts Summit 1,414ft asl

The summit tor of rocks is known as Pikeawassa; it's now 08:00hrs and we are getting wet. Sometimes I like to think that I am the first up a particular fell on the day in question and I have such a feeling today; however I have no way of verifying this accomplishment and dozens of odd folk could have already been up here today.

Martindale New Church

The Parish Church of St.Peter - also known as Martindale New Church. If they build another church in the vicinity, how will that be known and what will this one then be called, because there is already a Martindale Old Church??

Route: Parking at the hause close to Martindale New Church, up Steel Knotts on the most direct pathed route, summit, Steel End, AV, bench, Lanty's Overgrown Tarn, back to the car.

Greetings: Nil.

Weather: Overcast declining to wet.

Time Taken: 1 hours 15 minutes over a distance of about not very much, maybe 2 and a bit miles; 700ft of ascent.
